TOKYO, June 19, 2020 - PHC Corporation (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) today announces the launch of the On-Site Calibration Tablet Case*1, a dedicated option for the Automatic Tablet Counting & Packing System (hereafter ATC). This product is intended to further improve pharmacists’ workflow and reduce the risk of medication errors.

The multitude of drugs that are available today, resulting from a rapid increase in the number of generic drugs as well as new therapies, and frequent prescription changes of inpatients make the workflow for pharmacists more complex. The workload increase and dispensing error risk are seen more often when pharmacists need to perform manual procedures with rarely prescribed drugs.

Currently ATC*2 can automatically package drugs in the required dose for each patient, based on their prescription, as a way to streamline pharmacist workflow and contribute to reliable patient medication management. With just one new On-Site Calibration Tablet Case, the dedicated ATC option can now be used with drugs in various shapes and sizes*3. Conventional tablet cases need to be custom-made for each tablet shape and size. The new product can be adjusted to fit tablet width and height on the spot, making additional orders for custom-made tablet cases unnecessary for different tablets. It will save pharmacists from needing to manually dispense prior to the arrival of custom-made tablet cases, and also supports reliable medication management by eliminating the risk of dispensing errors due to manual procedures. Not having to purchase different tablet cases also reduces running costs for hospital and retail pharmacies.
