PHC Corporation

TOKYO, April 1, 2021 - PHC Corporation (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Kyoji Morimoto, hereafter PHC), announced today that it has completed the acquisition of the cloud-based electronic medical record (EMR)*1 business from Xirapha Karte System Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka, President: Taichi Yamaguchi, hereafter Xirapha) following an agreement that was signed earlier this year. Completion of this transaction sees PHC taking over operations of Xirapha’s cloud-based EMR business.

Xirapha has developed the Xirapha Karte cloud-based EMR system for clinics, and is a major provider of cloud-based EMR systems in Japan that link to the Standard Japan Medical Receipt Software*2. From April 1, Xirapha Karte will be made available through the Medicom business at PHC. This will offer customers across various healthcare settings a product portfolio with a more comprehensive range of EMR solutions that meets demands for on-premise and cloud systems.

PHC is a Japanese subsidiary of PHC Holdings Corporation, a healthcare company that develops, manufactures, sells, and services solutions across diabetes management, life sciences and diagnostics globally, as well as providing healthcare services in Japan. The Medicom business unit of PHC offers a range of healthcare IT products and services, including electronic medical record systems and medical-receipt systems. PHC has led the healthcare IT market in Japan for over half a century, and is the number one*3 provider of on-premise solutions for clinics.

Through this acquisition, PHC is aiming to expand its Healthcare IT business in Japan by adding Xirapha’s cloud-based EMR solution to its portfolio. It will also enable PHC to establish a greater presence in the medical ICT market that is showing increased usage of cloud-based technologies.

By combining PHC’s expertise in medical information systems with Xirapha’s expertise in SaaS business*4, PHC will be able to accelerate its offerings of new cloud-based EMR services that will meet the latest customer needs and add value for them. This will allow PHC to continue contributing to higher quality healthcare by responding quicker to the various needs of healthcare professionals and working to provide new solutions that lead to better healthcare for patients.
