TOKYO, July 14, 2020 - PHC Corporation (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) announces an upgrade of its HealthCare Note Service*1. The new service combines the company’s current electronic medication notebook features with drug delivery and payment services. This service will be enabled through a new connection to the drug support service curon*2, a dedicated system for pharmacies provided by MICIN, Inc (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereafter MICIN) currently being prepared for release this September. It is the first service that will be available as part of PHC Corporation’s new cloud solution, Medicom Cloud Connect. This linkage solution connects all of the cloud services operated by PHC Corporation and its partnering companies, which can help healthcare professionals provide patients with enhanced medical services in Japan.

The expanding COVID-19 outbreak has seen increased fears of in-hospital infection through patient exposure in medical institutions, as well as suspensions of patient examinations due to concerns about virus infection, which has led to increased treatment withdrawals. Meanwhile, the revised Pharmaceutical Affairs Law that will go into effect in September 2020, is expected to allow online medication instructions and enhanced online medical services using PCs and smartphones.

The HealthCare Note Service for pharmacies manages patients’ personal health data on their smartphones, such as medication information and blood pressure data, and enables prescriptions to be sent to pharmacies beforehand to help reduce waiting time. The drug support service, curon, offers credit card payments and an efficient medication prescription home delivery service to patients. Medications are dispatched by couriers after pharmacists have provided medication instructions via phone to home-care patients after online/phone re-examinations. With the linking of these two services, patients can send prescriptions through the HealthCare Note smartphone app, make online credit card payments for medications and have them delivered to their homes. For patients, this saves them the time and effort of going to the pharmacy. In particular, this service is expected to be useful for the elderly who have difficulties going to the pharmacy or patients who are not collecting prescriptions because they are afraid of virus infection, as it will ensure they have an uninterrupted supply of medications and could prevent them from deteriorating due to their medications running out. It also provides more time for pharmacists by reducing accounting tasks and streamlining drug delivery.

PHC Corporation is a Japanese subsidiary of the PHC Group, a global healthcare company that develops, manufactures, sells, and services solutions across diabetes management, diagnostics and life sciences, as well as providing healthcare services. This new service has been developed in collaboration with MICIN whose medical application that connects healthcare professionals and patients includes the online examination service curon, which is used in over 4,000 medical institutions. It aims to improve added value in the Medicom*3 brand pharmacy product lineup for the domestic healthcare IT business.

Takayuki Otsuka, Corporate Officer and co-head of the Healthcare Services Domain of PHC Holdings Corporation says, “Our HealthCare Note service developed in 2014 is highly acclaimed*4 for its advanced business model with a ripple effect across the society. It’s currently used in over 3,300 pharmacies with more than 450,000 users, a number that continues to increase. Following this system linkage with the drug support service curon, we will continue to strengthen collaborations with our partner companies to further improve convenience for patients and work efficiency for pharmacists that use the HealthCare Note service. As we aim to become the leading provider of best-in-class precision and digital solutions in healthcare services in Japan, we will continue to contribute to better healthcare by offering optimal solutions that connect patients with pharmacists through data and enhance their health management.”
