April 01, 2026 (Tokyo, Japan) – PHC Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Nobuaki Nakamura) today announced that its Biomedical Business (product brand: PHCbi), part of its Life Sciences Business Unit, marks the 60th anniversary of its founding. Since 1966, this business has grown thanks to customers and other stakeholders who have trusted and supported our brand.
The Biomedical Business began in 1966, when SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. developed and launched a pharmaceutical refrigerator designed for the refrigerated storage of medicines. Since then, through the development, manufacturing, and sales of a broad range of research and medical support equipment—including incubators and ultra-low temperature and cold storage products—the business has contributed to improving the quality of life sciences research and development, as well as enhancing operational efficiency in clinical settings. In 2000, the business was among the first in the life sciences industry to deliver a Cell Processing Center (CPC), a strictly controlled cell processing facility for aseptic processing of cell culture, processing, among others, and moved early to develop solutions for the cell therapy field. Today, as part of PHC, the Biomedical Business continues to focus on developing solutions in the cell and gene therapy domain, including taking on the challenge of addressing QCD (Quality, Cost, and Delivery) issues in therapy manufacturing processes. Leveraging proprietary technologies and precision manufacturing, the business provides products and services spanning from research and medical support equipment to next-generation technology for the healthcare and cell and gene therapy fields. These offerings are used in research and clinical settings across approximately 110 countries and regions worldwide.
To commemorate its 60th anniversary, the Biomedical Business has established an anniversary logo and slogan, “Preserving Yesterday, Incubating Tomorrow.” The slogan incorporates two core product lines—cold storage and incubation equipment—and reflects the business’s commitment to carrying forward its legacy to nurture the future. It expresses the passion for manufacturing and dedication to quality that the Biomedical Business has maintained through changing times, and connects them to the creation of new innovation.

Guided by its vision of “Contributing to the evolution and progress of modalities,” the Biomedical Business embraces its mission to create new value in the life sciences and in medical care. With the aim of realizing a future in which high-quality healthcare is accessible to everyone, the business will continue striving to solve the challenges faced by customers in research and clinical settings, while pursuing the creation of innovative solutions that meet increasingly diverse needs in the life sciences field.
